Life of Pi review!

So after watching the -rather disappointing- film I decided to try and give the book a chance, now the books cover is very beautiful and eye catching (which is what you want if you're selling something I suppose) and putting my movie opinions behind me I purchased the book.
Not a heavy read!
This really catches your eyes!

Now I must say, the start of this book is very pulling; making you wan't to read on until your eyes begin to ache (I do this alot!!). This however soon changes as it takes a whole 36 chapters to re-call Pi's intriguing lifestyle! Which leads on to part two, the pacific ocean (A whole 93 pages in!). Now this part is very much like the film, except as expected in written form much more detailed on the topics, the poor Zebra still gets munched on, then the Ape, and finally the Hyena; quite a good example of predators versus prey I suppose. Now with Tigers being my favourite animals I fell in love with Richard Parker instantaneously in the film, but in this book the main focus is on Pi -which is natural- and I feel as though Yann Martel did a brilliant job; the way he describes the scenery and the nature around the boat and on the island is fantastically done, defiantly worth a good read! However, after all these wonderful settings and the build up of "Oh I bet Richard Parker will stay with him!", well he doesn't. Our feline friend does a runner leaving Pi on the beach alone as acted out in the film, the book then ends with an interview between Pi and two Japanese men asking him questions about the ship sinking, they obviously believe he has lost the plot and the book has a pretty abrupt ending! So overall, I think the book is certainly worthy of a read, but if you think its any less disappointing as the film (which had me in tears many a times) then you probably shouldn't buy this book.

Pretty tiger in a porthole? Well atleast its suitable.
